Gentle flavor of tofu
Using traditional Morika Tofu's cotton tofu, the signature dish is yudofu (simmered tofu) made with a secret dashi broth extracted from Hokkaido kelp and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) from Makurazaki, Kagoshima. The tofu is simmered to the perfect tenderness, offering a melt-in-your-mouth smoothness that harmonizes exquisitely with the savory flavor of the dashi soy sauce. In addition to sesame tofu, agedashi (deep-fried) tofu, and tempura, a variety of Japanese small dishes centered on tofu can be enjoyed, allowing you to savor the tofu’s inherently gentle flavor.
A tranquil, Japanese-style space characteristic of Arashiyama
Built in a Japanese style centered on zashiki (traditional tatami seating), if you sit back and relax in the tatami space a quiet, serene time typical of Kyoto and Arashiyama unfolds. Located at the end of a Kyoto-like bamboo grove path, it has a character that suits moments between sightseeing or strolling. Not too showy or pretentious, it is a pleasant space where you can surrender yourself to tofu cuisine and the atmosphere of Japan.
Established in 1962, a long-established tofu shop in Arashiyama
Founded in 1962, this long-established shop has operated for many years in Kyoto Arashiyama as a specialty tofu cuisine restaurant. For more than half a century since its founding, it has continued to preserve the unchanged taste of "yudofu" (hot tofu). Its historic appearance, which blends naturally with the atmosphere of Arashiyama as a tourist destination, is one of its charms.
Tsuchiya Akio
Owner and head chef Mr. Tsuchiya has continued to preserve the traditional flavors by drawing on his many years of experience. Meanwhile, the young proprietress also supports the shop. Ms. Yoko was born in Kyoto and became the young proprietress when she married into Yudofu Takemura, which boasts a history of over 50 years; together with the owner she runs the restaurant. She strives to provide customer-focused service and to create a welcoming atmosphere.
